We have customers asking us why space saving beds products from other countries could be much cheaper? Well, here is one of the explanations:
Many buyers are not aware that mattresses have different dimensions for different countries even so if the description is the same. Standard bed sizes are based on standard mattress sizes, which vary from country to country. Dimensions and names vary considerably around the world, with most countries having their own standards and terminology.
Here is an example of the difference between a Standard Chinese Queens Size mattress in China and the standard Queen Size mattress in Singapore:
China size = 150cm (width) x 200cm (length)
Singapore size = 152cm (width) x 190cm (length)
Aside from these two countries, Queen Size mattress dimensions differ in Europe, America and other parts of Asia.
What does it mean to cost of buying a space saving bed from overseas then?
Well, imagine if a buyer purchased online from a e-commerce shops which the bed frames are locally produced in China for their local use. They could have purchased the space saving bed with dimension that caters to 150cm x 190cm mattress size. While it may not have problem if the mattress size is smaller as if the bed frame is larger. But Chinese manufacturers will mass produce (so there’s cost saving for mass production thus cheaper selling price) their bed frame to suit this China standard size. If this bed is installed in Singapore, and Singapore size having wider width (150 cm vs 152cm), the bed may not close correctly when retracting to save space, since our Singapore standard size is bigger than the bed frame imported from China.
In real life case, it actually happened to a couple who purchase a space saving set from Australia and upon installation, their mattress cannot fit to the bed frame. So they have to import the mattress also from Australia, increasing their cost.
